Grand Opening of Everett's Pacific Avenue Overpass
Officials from Sound Transit and the City of Everett will celebrate the opening of a new city landmark and gateway—The Pacific Avenue Overpass---at 1 p.m. on Wednesday November 14. The overpass creates a convenient, safer access to the new Everett Station for pedestrians, automobiles, buses and train passengers. It is a grade-separated crossing over the Burlington Northern Santa-Fe railroad track on Pacific Avenue. A ramp from the overpass leads down to the adjacent Everett Station, which is the city's new transportation center for trains and buses.
The Pacific Avenue Overpass features special lighting and railings that give the structure a unique presence. Artistic elements, designed by Elizabeth Conner and Everett resident Reg Akright, include graceful fencing and lighting that mark the highest point of the bridge.
The overpass is one of Sound Transit's Regional Express community connection projects to improve the accessibility, reliability and effectiveness of public transportation. This $20 million project was completed on time and under budget. The project was funded by Sound Transit. The City of Everett managed the construction contract and was an active partner in the design.
