2002 Accomplishments
Sounder Commuter Rail Service- Sounder schedules Sunday runs to Mariners games, special service to the Puyallup Fair, and service to Sunday Seahawks games.
- Sounder maintains an average on-time rating of 95 percent. Sounder carries more than 670,000 riders and more than 1.3 million riders since service started in 2000.
- The Kent and Auburn garages both open ahead of schedule.
- A third train is added to the schedule, which now includes a middle morning train from Tacoma to Seattle and an earlier afternoon train from Seattle back to Tacoma.
ST Express Regional Bus Service- By the end of 2002, all of the planned 19 ST Express Bus routes are in operation. The last two routes called for in Phase I of Sound Move begin service in September 2002.
- Construction is completed on the Overlake Transit Center/Park-and-Ride Lot and the Bellevue Transit Center Stage II.
- The Lynnwood SR-99 HOV lanes project is completed.
- Construction begins on the Bellevue HOV Direct Access project, starting with the SE 8th Street interchange.
Link Light Rail Service- Progress continues on the design of various contract packages for the Central Link light rail Initial Segment.
- Key third party interlocal agreements are completed and approved by the Sound Transit Board, including agreements with King County for use of the E-3 Busway, the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel for joint operations and the Community Development Fund (CDF) funding.
- Work on the Tacoma Link trackway and stations continues and the traction power substation is installed.
- The Tacoma Link maintenance base construction is completed.
- Tacoma Light rail vehicles arrive and testing begins.
