Systemwide Ridership Report

First Quarter 2005 - January 1 - March 31

Total system ridership for the first quarter for ST Express regional bus, Sounder commuter rail and Tacoma Link light rail increased 11 percent compared with the same quarter in 2004. Total Sounder train boardings, including special events service, were up 24 percent, reflecting the continued growth in ridership on the South Corridor and the start-up of North Corridor service in December 2003.

Total system ridership includes weekday and weekend ridership for express bus, light rail and commuter rail, as well as special service for commuter rail and express bus. Average weekday boardings are based on Monday - Friday ridership.

Sound Transit's ridership data is obtained from the agencies that operate Sound Transit service. For Sound Transit express bus routes operated by King County Metro Transit, ridership is estimated on a monthly basis and updated when Metro automatic passenger count data is made available.
