Systemwide Ridership Report

First Quarter 2006 - January 1 - March 31

Sound Transit experienced very strong ridership growth in the first quarter of 2006. For the quarter, total passenger boardings for all modes were up by 12 percent compared with the first quarter in 2005. The largest increase was on Sounder commuter rail service, which was up 46 percent. ST Express bus ridership increased nine percent overall. Tacoma Link ridership was essentially unchanged compared to the same period last year. The growth seen in the first quarter significantly outpaced the projections of the 2006 Service Implementation Plan (SIP).

Total system ridership includes weekday and weekend ridership for express bus, light rail and commuter rail, as well as special service for commuter rail and express bus. Average weekday boardings are based on Monday - Friday ridership.
