Systemwide Ridership Report

First Quarter 2008 - January 1 - March 31

Quarterly average weekday ridership on Sound Transit services exceeded 50,000 boardings for the first time during the first quarter 2008. Strong growth trends continued from previous quarters, particularly for Sounder commuter rail. While the national economy is showing signs of slowing down, regional job growth has continued, helping to add new riders. Starting in late February, it became clear that large increases in retail gasoline prices were causing transit ridership to expand across the country, including the Seattle area.
