Sound Transit Assists Business During Construction
Sound Transit works hard to ease the impacts of construction on local neighborhoods and businesses. A big part of our mitigation is making sure that businesses remain open during the construction of light rail and other projects.
Keep Access Open and Traffic Moving
- Maintain access to businesses for customers and employees
- Work with businesses to arrange alternate access when access must be blocked for construction purposes
- Provide off-site parking for the construction workers' vehicles to preserve on-street parking
Maintain a Clean Work Site
- Keep garbage, dust, and debris to a minimum
- Wash windows of businesses in active construction areas once every three months
Provide Adequate Signage
- Post "open for business" signs at businesses directly impacted by construction
- Provide detour signs to help customers access businesses during construction
- Kiosks and business directories where appropriate
- Temporary public art will be applied to temporary construction fencing in places along the corridor
Promote the Businesses on the Route
- Provide access to expert business assistance consultant services (These may take the form of marketing plan development, technical workshops, or one on one consultation)
- Use public art displays to encourage customers to visit and shop along the route
- Participate in community events such as street fairs, farmer's markets, parades, etc.
