Link Light Rail ProjectsThe 13.9-mile Central Link light rail line from Westlake Station to Tukwila International Boulevard Station opened July 18, 2009. A 1.7-mile extension to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport will open in December 2009. Ridership is expected to reach 21,000 riders every weekday by the end of 2009. In 2010, after a full year of operation, the average weekday ridership from downtown Seattle to Sea-Tac Airport is expected to total 26,600 riders.

Sound Transit is working to extend the initial light rail segment. University Link is a 3.15 mile light rail extension that will run from Downtown Seattle north to the University of Washington. Voter approval of the mass transit expansion ballot in November 2008 set into motion the completion of design work on North Link, East Link, and the First Hill Streetcar.
