Sound Transit's internship program is designed to provide students with a rewarding internship by working on challenging projects. In gaining valuable experience with real-world applications, this internship will put you a step above the rest.

Internship Program Components

  • Orientation Program: Designed to provide realistic expectations about the job and a positive outlook on the organization.
  • Mentorship Program: Puts the intern in contact with someone in their desired profession who is in a leadership position. The mentor acts in an advisory capacity to the student.
  • Evaluation: A communication tool to ensure that performance and program objectives meet Sound Transit's business objectives.

Leave with Skills and Confidence

Sound Transit interns leave the program with skills, confidence and a list of accomplishments. Interns will be trained by experts in their fields, from engineering to accounting. The agency mentoring program gives interns guidance as well as an opportunity to make professional contacts and form working relationships with top professionals.

What Sound Transit internships offer that many other programs do not is the chance to work with a developing project. With hands-on participation, interns are involved in the construction of an exciting and evolving product.

The majority of Sound Transit internships are business or civil/systems engineering oriented. However, the agency often has internships in planning, finance, communications, marketing, project management, human resources, and legal departments. Most internships are scheduled for full-time work in the summer with possible part-time work during fall quarter.

Sound Transit believes that interns deserve to be compensated for the time they contribute to the agency. In addition to the education they receive, interns will also be paid for their work. Rates vary according to the type of position and the intern's current status.

Eligibility

 

  • Students will be considered for internships at Sound Transit consistent with specific qualifications described in job postings, as well as other criteria or requirements.
  • Students must be participating in an accredited internship program through their school.
  • Continued eligibility is determined by maintaining continuous student status. Interns must be enrolled full-time in college courses leading to a Graduate, Undergraduate or Associate degree, or two-year certificate relevant to the internship.
  • Students must maintain full-time enrollment for the duration of the internship, with the exception of summer break, and a minimum of cumulative grade point average of 2.50.
  • Interns are required to provide verification of enrollment for each quarter and a copy of transcripts as well as grades. If these documents are not received, the internship may be terminated.
  • Internship during the summer is contingent upon pre-registration for summer or fall quarter. Documentation of the student's pre-registration must be provided at the time of hire prior to the start of summer quarter.
