How To Ride

ST Express Regional Bus

  • Check bus route times and stop locations on the timetables and maps
  • Watch for the route number on the bus! Sometimes another agency's bus may be used on a Sound Transit Route.
  • Arrive five minutes early at your bus stop.
  • Have your fare ready.
  • If paying a reduced fare, show valid Regional Reduced Fare Permit .
  • Allow persons with disabilities and senior citizens to use priority seats.
  • Tap your ORCA card at the card reader, pay cash at the fare box, or swipe your pass before or after boarding, as directed by the driver.
  • If needed, ask the driver which bus stop is closest to your destination.
  • Pull the cord or press the bell bar to notify the driver a block before your stop.

Sounder Commuter Rail

  • Check station locations
  • Check current weekday schedule. Sounder operates event service on selected weekend days only.
  • Use your ORCA card or Transit Pass, or purchase a ticket from the ticket vending machine on the station platform.
  • If using an ORCA card, tap on at the ORCA card reader before boarding and tap off after exiting the train.
  • Arrive at least 15 minutes early if you need to purchase an ORCA card from the ticket vending machine.
  • On board, fares are inspected at random. Be prepared to show your ORCA card, pass or ticket to the fare enforcement officer upon request.
  • Allow persons with disabilities and senior citizens to use priority seats.
  • Persons paying reduced fare may be required to show their Regional Reduced Fare Permit .
  • Passengers without a valid ticket or pass are subject to a citation and fine.

Central Link Light Rail

  • Check station locations, map and schedule.
  • Use your ORCA card, transit pass, or purchase a ticket from the ticket vending machine on the station platform prior to boarding.
  • Arrive early if you need to purchase an ORCA card from the ticket vending machine.
  • If using an ORCA card, tap on at the ORCA card reader before boarding and tap off after exiting the train.
  • On board, fares are inspected at random. Be prepared to show your ORCA card, pass, or ticket to the fare enforcement officer upon request.

Tacoma Link Light Rail

  • Tacoma Link is fare free - no fare required.
  • Check train operating times and station locations.
  • Allow persons with disabilities and senior citizens priority seats.
  • Passengers may be asked to get off the train at the end of the line when operator conducts a vehicle inspection.
