As early as August 17, Sound Transit will be closing 8th Ave between NE 189th and NE 185th Street for underground utility work.
What
The closure will be in three phases:
Phase 1: Work zone will be West of NE 189th Street to 8th Ave. This will be deep excavation for storm drain structures and pipes, as well as backfill and compaction over newly installed pipes.
Phase 2: Will be on 8th Ave from NE 189th Street down through the intersection of NE 188th street. This will be deep excavation for storm drain structures and pipes, as well as backfill and compaction over newly installed pipes.
Phase 3: Will be on 8th Ave from NE 188th Street down to 185th Street, stopping just before the intersection. This will be deep excavation for storm drain structures and pipes, as well as backfill and compaction over newly installed pipes.
- Neighbors should expect construction noises and vibration.
- Roads will be open to local access only.
- Access to driveways will be maintained.
- Residents may lose access for up to one day while underground utilities near driveways are being installed.
- Driveways access may only be lost during work hours only.
- Temporary parking will be provided if access to driveway is lost.
- Contact Community Outreach, My Nguyen in advance to coordinate access to large vehicles, boats, or trailers.
When
- Phase 1 of this closure will be in effect from August 17 to September 10.
- Typical work hours are 7:00a.m. to 5:00p.m.
Where
- Phase 1: 189th St west of 8th Ave as well as the intersection of 189th St and 8th Ave.
- Phase 2: 8th Ave between NE 189th St and NE 188th St as well as the intersection of 8th Ave and 188th St.
- Phase 3: 8th Ave from 188th St to 185th St, not including the intersection of 8th Ave and 185th St.
