'Look out for each other': Safety poster competition with Southeast Seattle Education Coalition kicks off

Publish Date

A safe community is a strong community, and street crossing safety is a key focus of Sound Transit’s At-Grade Crossing Program. Safe crossings mean improved access for everyone who lives near or visits our transit-connected communities. A “look out for each other” mindset is key for widespread safety and a strong, connected community.

Poster contest theme: "Look Out for Each Other"

We are inviting young artists in grades K-12 to enter our Safety Poster Contest in partnership with Southeast Seattle Education Coalition. The theme of the contest is: “Look Out for Each Other.”

Participants should draw or illustrate what it means to look out for your friends, family members, neighbors, and other community members around tracks and trains. Bonus points for incorporating Sound Transit’s “LOOK” eyes into your design.

For inspiration, Sound Transit’s Safety Messages are:

  1. Look both ways. Trains come from both directions, so always expect a second train!
  2. Headphones off, screens down. It’s important to stay alert to be safe.
  3. Take crosswalks, not shortcuts. Trains always have the right of way, so pay attention to crossing signals.
  4. Stay behind the yellow line. The yellow strip creates a barrier between the train and the platform.
  5. Bike smart, ride safe. When you’re riding a bike, always cross tracks at a 90-degree angle to prevent getting stuck.
