Sound Transit celebrates Latinx heritage with continuing traditions

Publish Date

This month, Sound Transit is proud to celebrate Latinx heritage along with our partners at King County Metro and the Seattle Department of Transportation.

Latinx Heritage Month is a time to recognize, honor and celebrate the contributions, culture and histories of the Latinx community.

This is the third year of the multi-agency partnership. When we were together in person, the three agencies co-hosted the kick-off event and invited each group to each other’s events. This year in the virtual space, we're collaborating through video and virtual events.

With King County and SDOT, Sound Transit’s Latinx in Transportation (LIT) Employee Resource Group came up with an exciting schedule of events for employees, ranging from guest speakers and lunch and learns to an art showcase and trivia game.

Latinx Heritage Month begins on Sept. 15, coinciding with the anniversary of the independence of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Mexico and Chile follow on Sept. 16 and 18, respectively. On Oct. 12, we recognize Día de la Raza (Indigenous People's Day).

Make sure to follow Sound Transit on LinkedIn as we highlight members of our LIT ERG this month.
