ST Spotlight: Shopping, buses, bikes and trains
Besides buses and shoppers, Northgate’s future includes bikes and trains.
Construction is underway on the elevated Northgate Station located east of 1st Avenue NE, spanning NE 103rd Street and providing access to Northgate Mall, Metro buses and adjacent park-and-ride facilities as well as surrounding neighborhoods and businesses. King County is planning transit-oriented development projects just east of the future station.
In addition, the Seattle Department of Transportation plans to build a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge over Interstate 5 to improve connections within the community, including North Seattle College.
Northgate Station is part of the light rail extension that will run between Northgate and the University of Washington, starting in 2021. The ride from Northgate to downtown Seattle will be fast, taking only 14 minutes rain or shine.
