Link light rail service will be temporarily suspended between Westlake and SODO stations from the evening of Jan. 10 through Jan. 12
Link Shuttle buses will operate to transport riders between stations; passengers should allow additional time for trips
In order to perform work connecting East Link to the existing 1 Line, Link light rail will be temporarily suspended between Westlake and SODO stations from 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10 through the end of service Sunday, Jan. 12. Normal operations will resume at the start of service Monday, Jan. 13.
During this time, crews will be completing the installation of the Overhead Contact System (OCS) on the 2 Line. Installing and connecting the OCS requires power to the impacted section of the 1 line to be suspended for system integration. Sound Transit will provide Link Shuttle buses to transport passengers. The buses will run approximately every 10-15 minutes and stop at all stations between Westlake and SODO. Additional information about the bus bridge is available at https://www.soundtransit.org/disruptionshuttle.
Passengers traveling southbound from Westlake station will have to get off the train and take the shuttle, reconnecting at SODO station if they are continuing to travel south. The same will be true for passengers heading north through SODO station, who will exit the train at SODO and reconnect at Westlake for the remainder of their journey. Link trains will be running approximately every 15 minutes between SODO and Angle Lake and between Lynnwood and Westlake.
This temporary service suspension will be followed by three additional planned disruptions scheduled for Jan. 17-19, Feb. 1-2, and Feb.14-16. These closures will allow for continued 2 Line tie-in work as well as repairs to the damaged OCS that currently limits the speed of trains travelling into and out of University of Washington station.
Passengers should plan ahead and allow for extra time for transfers between buses and trains or seek alternative transit options that may better suit their needs. A full list of transit options is available at https://www.soundtransit.org/1LineAlternatives
A language line is available to provide translation assistance for limited English proficiency persons at 800-823-9230.
