Sound Transit to host drop-in session on Sounder Sumner Station access improvements
Public invited to learn about the project goals and activities, and provide comments on station look and feel
Sound Transit will hold a drop-in session this week in Sumner about station access improvements at the Sumner Sounder station.
- Wednesday, Nov. 29 from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Sumner Cafe, 909 Alder Ave., Sumner
More than 1,000 people ride Sounder or ST Express buses from Sumner Station every day. Thirteen daily roundtrip Sounder trains stop at the station. Parking is usually full early in the morning and commuters heading to and from Sumner Station experience congestion. Since voters approved the station improvement projects in 2008, Sounder ridership has grown steadily, and is expected to increase by approximately 70 percent by 2035. These improvements will provide easy and reliable access to the stations as ridership and service increases.
Members of the public are invited to stop by to learn about the project purpose, goals and schedule, and give feedback on design elements for the new garage and access improvements. Feedback from this session, and an online survey, will help Sound Transit understand what the community wants in the look and feel of the garage and station area.
Those who aren't able to attend the drop-in session can participate in an online survey through December 8 at soundtransit.org/sumnerimprovements.
The project is entering the final design phase, with construction scheduled to begin in 2019. The station improvements and parking garage are expected to be complete in 2021, adding more than 500 new stalls.
