Public feedback period open for King Street Station platform area improvements
Public can help prioritize access improvements to the station platform and surrounding streets through Sept. 30; in-person information available July 17 and August 7
Today, Sound Transit launched a public engagement period for potential improvements to Seattle’s King Street Station platform, serving Sounder S and N line trains, as well as proposed upgrades to elevator, stair and street station access. The online open house will provide information until Sept. 30 on the types of improvements currently under study, including:
- More stairs and elevators —
- one additional elevator and two staircases north of the Weller Street Bridge.
- two elevators and a staircase at a new south entrance/exit with a street-level walkway over the tracks connecting to 4th Ave South.
- Concourse — A new upper level of the station to be constructed directly above the Sounder platform to provide access to the new staircases and elevators.
- Longer platform — Extending the Sounder platform to the south to allow the addition of another entrance/exit to the platform and serve longer trains and more riders in the future.
- Pedestrian connections — Four areas for improved pedestrian access to and from the station are being studied.
These proposed improvements are designed to ease platform congestion and make it easier to enter and exit the station. Interested members of the public should weigh in at www.soundtransit.org/kss-plan. The survey is also available in Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Vietnamese and Spanish.
Additionally, two options are upcoming for in-person information:
- South Downtown Hub Workshop Open House #2
- Union Station
- 401 South Jackson Street
- July 17, 2024, 4 - 4:30 p.m. (full event 4 - 7 p.m.)
- King Street Station information table
- 4th Ave South and Weller Street Bridge
- Aug. 7, 2024, 2:30 - 6:30 p.m.
The King Street Station platform area improvements were approved by voters in 2016. This open house outlines refinements of potential improvements presented in 2022. Additional early design and conceptual engineering are underway, and updated information will be shared with the public in 2025.
