Envision is an environmental and social certification aimed at civil infrastructure such as built structures that are generally not inhabited but have a major effect on their environment. Sound Transit’s Link light rail expansion projects are the perfect examples of this type of building.
Envision provides design criteria and a measurement system to ensure that infrastructure projects are sustainable. Envision certifications provide an ecological and social framework for infrastructure, foster transformation and innovation, establish credibility, and address climate and resilience.
To earn this certification, parties must show that the infrastructure in place is sustainable. Sound Transit has earned an Envision Platinum certification for the Downtown Redmond Station and the Federal Way Link Extension.
Downtown Redmond Link Extension
The Downtown Redmond Link Extension, a 3.4-mile extension of Sound Transit's 2 Line, was the first transit project in the Pacific Northwest to achieve Envision Platinum Award status.
The award was given as a result of the project’s performance across 64 sustainability criteria addressing a wide range of indicators, including community, quality of life, management, planning, materials, energy, water, environmental impacts, emissions, and resilience.
