Link light rail service will be temporarily suspended between Capitol Hill and SODO stations November 11-13
Shuttle buses will operate to transport riders between stations; passengers should allow up to an additional 30 minutes for trips
Due to planned maintenance in the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel, Link light rail will be suspended between Capitol Hill and SODO stations from the start of service Friday, November 11 through the end of service Sunday, Nov. 13. Normal operations will resume at the start of service Monday, Nov. 14. Link passengers traveling through those stations during the disruption should allow up to an additional 30 minutes for their trips.
During this time, Sound Transit will provide replacement shuttle buses to transport passengers. The buses will run approximately every 15 minutes and stop at all stations between Capitol Hill and SODO. Passengers should plan ahead and allow for extra time for transfers between buses and trains or seek alternative transit options that may better suit their needs.
During the tunnel closure, work crews will section the overhead catenary system (OCS), which provides power to the light rail vehicles, into quadrants. At present, any work on the tunnel’s OCS requires the entire tunnel to be closed. By dividing the OCS into quadrants, any future work would only affect a portion of the tunnel, reducing the overall impact on service. In addition, crews will also be performing work needed to tie the future East Link extension into the existing Link system.
Passengers should also consider alternative transit service during the disruption, especially for their Friday commute, such as Sounder or Community Transit-operated buses. On any of the three days, they can take Route 8 from Seattle Center to Capitol Hill. Riders traveling between Downtown Seattle and SODO can take routes 101, 150 or 594. Please note that late-night Link riders can connect to Route 132 at SODO Station (with departures at 12:05 a.m., 12:35 a.m. and 1:05 a.m.) by walking to 4th Ave. and S. Lander St.
