New traffic patterns coming to downtown Federal Way

Impacts are expected until mid-2024

Publish Date

Crews working on the Federal Way Link Extension will be making major traffic revisions in the area near the Federal Way Transit Center. Beginning Feb. 23:

  • Southbound 23rd Avenue South will close, and the street will be one-way going north between South 320th Street, and South 317th Street until November to accommodate extensive utility work and concrete paving.
  • At the same time, South 317th Street will remain two-way, but the center turn lane will be eliminated.
  • Pete von Reichbauer Way South will be restriped to increase capacity to offset 23rd Avenue South being one-way.
  • A new roundabout will be in place by the end of the year at the intersection of 23rd Avenue South and South 317th Street

Federal Way Link will extend light rail from Angle Lake Station in the city of SeaTac to the Federal Way Transit Center. The 7.8-mile extension includes three stations: Kent/Des Moines near Highline College, Star Lake and Federal Way Downtown.
