Union Station Great Hall open this weekend as cooling center

Heat advisory in effect for Puget Sound region through Tuesday, July 9

Publish Date

The Joni Earl Great Hall at Union Station will be open this weekend as a cooling center in response to forecast high temperatures in the upper 80s and 90s. Saturday through Tuesday, the Great Hall, located at 401 S. Jackson St. in Seattle, will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Inside the air-conditioned facility, visitors will find tables and benches for seating, as well as restrooms and water fountains.

With increased and stabilized security and facilities staff, Sound Transit reopened the Great Hall to the public last month after it had been closed since the start of the COVID pandemic in March 2020. Its regular public hours are weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The Joni Earl Great Hall at Union Station is accessible via the Link 1 Line Chinatown/International District Station, the Seattle Streetcar First Hill line and multiple ST Express and King County Metro bus routes running on Fourth Avenue South, South Jackson Street and other nearby streets.

Link and ST Express bus schedules are available at soundtransit.org/schedule. King County Metro bus schedules can be found at kingcounty.gov/metro/schedules
