Imagine the future of regional light rail in the South Sound

Publish Date

We’re planning the Tacoma Dome Link Extension, a regional light rail expansion from Federal Way to Fife and Tacoma that will provide fast, reliable service from Pierce County to Sea-Tac International Airport and beyond.

The TDLE project will add almost 10 miles of mostly elevated tracks to the regional light rail system and four new stations, near south Federal Way, Fife, East Tacoma/Portland Avenue and the Tacoma Dome.

These stations will also offer riders efficient connections to other transit options like Sounder, Tacoma Link, ST Express, King County Metro, Pierce Transit, Intercity Transit and Amtrak.

What’s new on the TDLE?

The COVID-19 recession has greatly reduced the revenues Sound Transit relies on to expand our regional transit system. Visit soundtransit.org/realignment to learn more about the pandemic’s potential impact on our projects and timelines.

In November 2019, we shared updates on potential routes, station locations, and design concepts and visualizations for the TDLE.

Now we’re considering a variety of projects to connect future riders to our new light rail stations and their surrounding neighborhoods. We’re evaluating a range of non-motorized access projects for safe and convenient walking, rolling and cycling connections to stations.
