Publish Date
Body
Riders disembark the Sounder at Auburn station.

Thanks to everyone who attended the open house in October to learn more about Sound Transit's plans for a new garage and pedestrian, bicycle, and bus improvements at Auburn Station. We heard from over 170 of you – thanks for your questions and comments! Didn't have a chance to participate? View the display boards and outreach summary on our website. We heard questions from many of you on topics such as parking spaces, safety at the new garage, and more. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions for more information.

Sound Transit is building a new parking garage at 1st Street NW and A Street NW and improving pedestrian, bicycle and bus access in the area to give more people convenient access to the Sounder train. The garage, with approximately 535 new parking spaces, is anticipated to open in 2023.

What's next?

Sound Transit is refining the garage layout and other improvements, and evaluating potential environmental impacts and possible mitigation measures. We will issue the results of this evaluation for public review and comment in spring 2019. Learn more.

More about Sounder in Auburn

The Sounder commuter train runs 13 round trips between Tacoma Dome and King Street Station in Seattle, eight of which serve South Tacoma and Lakewood. Sounder also runs special service to select Seahawks, Sounder and Mariners games.

The growing popularity of Sounder means parking at the Auburn parking garage fills up early every weekday. Looking for an easier way to park at the station today? Sound Transit offers free carpool parking permits providing access to reserved areas during weekday mornings.
