The Lynnwood Link Extension opened in August 2024, extending the 1 Line from Northgate Station in north Seattle to Lynnwood City Center Station. This 8.5-mile extension connects communities in Snohomish County and north King County directly to downtown Seattle. Currently, 1 Line trains run every 8 minutes during peak times and every 12-15 minutes late at night and early morning. When the full 2 Line opens between Lynnwood and the Eastside, combined Link 1 Line and 2 Line service between Lynnwood City Center and downtown Seattle will increase to every 4 minutes at peak times. There are a total of about 3,700 parking spaces across four Link stations.

Future service
When the 2 Line is fully open in 2025, both 1 Line and 2 Line trains will double the current Link service between Snohomish County and north King County. During peak times, trains will run every 4-6 minutes between Lynnwood and downtown Seattle. 2 Line riders can transfer to a 1 Line train at any station from Lynnwood City Center to International District/Chinatown.
From International District/Chinatown, 2 Line trains will head east from Seattle to Mercer Island, Bellevue, and Redmond via the Cross Lake Connection. 1 Line trains will continue south to SeaTac/Airport and Angle Lake. Riders can expect a trip from Lynnwood to downtown Seattle in 28 minutes and from Mountlake Terrace to Sea-Tac Airport in 56 minutes.
If you currently ride any of the bus routes listed above, your trip could look different when Link opens. Changes could include:
- Buses that integrate with the growing Link light rail network.
- Bus routes that have updated schedules.
- More frequent and reliable service throughout the day – trains will arrive about every 8-10 minutes between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m.
- More seats and overall capacity.
- More connections to more places throughout the region.
- A new option to avoid highway traffic.
What have we heard?
ST Express riders in north King and Snohomish County have shared their feedback with us in recent years. They told us they value fast travel times, more frequent buses, and easy connections to light rail. We heard support for truncating ST Express Routes 512 and 513 to Lynnwood City Center in exchange for more bus trips and better connectivity to Link. Routes 510 and 515 are popular as they provide speedy service to and from downtown Seattle. Maintaining fast and easy service is crucial as we develop future service proposals. Increased Link service — trains every 4 minutes at peak! — will reduce wait times and crowding onboard our trains, as both train lines will operate from Lynnwood City Center Station.
After this round of feedback, we will develop more specific proposals for north King and Snohomish County ST Bus Express Service that could change bus frequency, the number of stops, and routes.
We will share and ask for your feedback on these proposals through this online hub in June and July and then will recommend a 2026 Service Plan to the Sound Transit Board of Directors in September. The Board will then vote on the plan as early as October. The plan will take effect as early as 2026.
