A safe community is a strong one, and at-grade track crossings are critical points where safety, mobility, and neighborhood connection intersect.

Safer crossings mean improved access for all who live in or visit our transit-connected communities.

Building upon safety enhancements with a “Look out for each other” mindset is the key to widespread safety and a strong, connected community.

Celebrate community and learn about safety with us!

We’re hosting the Sound Transit Safety Fair on Saturday, April 26 — a free, family-friendly event for all members of the community, sponsored by Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic!

Join us at the Odessa Brown’s Children’s Clinic for an opportunity to:

  • Learn from Sound Transit team members and other community partners about best practices for staying aware and making safe choices around tracks and trains.
  • Participate in interactive activities and safety demonstrations.
  • Take home cool swag from giveaways.
  • Enjoy free refreshments while connecting with your community.
  • Plus—meetup with Seattle Storm mascot Doppler while you’re celebrating community!

The At-Grade Crossing Master Plan

Through the At-Grade Crossing Program Master Plan, we’re identifying and prioritizing safety enhancements systemwide, with an early focus on the Rainier Valley.

The 2025 – 2029 Master Plan identifies completed and current projects, the Program’s priorities, and processes to identify, evaluate, and prioritize potential safety enhancements, allowing for the development and implementation of projects throughout this Program’s duration.

From better signage and barriers to increased education efforts, our goal is to make every crossing safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers.

The draft plan will be finalized in May of 2025.

Visit our at-grade crossing page for more information about upcoming events and safety enhancements we’re implementing throughout our system.
