Transit Equity Day is celebrated on February 4th, in honor of civil rights activist Rosa Parks’ birthday. While unequal access to transportation persists to this day, Sound Transit is helping transform our region by creating greater access to opportunity, and more affordable housing through transit-oriented development. Our expanding transit system provides living wage jobs during construction and operation, affordable connections to work, food, health care, entertainment and the essentials of everyday life, on trains sustainably powered by electricity. On Transit Equity Day 2025, Sound Transit employees recommit to leading our region's mobility transformation in a way that honors the legacy of Rosa Parks, renews our commitment to make public transit accessible and affordable, and continues to connect more people to more places to make life better and create equitable opportunities for all.

reel icon We’re excited to announce that the new 1 Line station on NE 130th St has officially been named PINEHURST STATION! 🎉 After engaging with the community and conducting an internal station name evaluation, “Pinehurst Station” emerged as the top choice, and the name was approved by the Sound Transit Board. Starting in 2026, Pinehurst Station will be here to serve our growing neighborhood between Northgate and Shoreline South/148th Street stations. 🚉 The project will feature lovely pedestrian and bicycle paths, convenient bus stops at the 130th/5th Avenue intersection, a special paratransit drop-off area, a spot for passenger vehicle drop-offs, and captivating station artwork developed by Seattle-based artist, Romson Bustillo - @romsonbustillo. Can’t wait for everyone to enjoy Pinehurst Station! 🥳
