Repairing vandalism damage will delay Link trains until Thursday

Publish Date

We are working quickly to repair vandalism damage at Beacon Hill Station. On Monday morning, a person entered a tunnel cross-passage, opened a standpipe valve, flooded critical electrical components and disabled the emergency ventilation fan.

Rider safety is our top priority, and fire codes prohibit us from resuming service in the northbound tunnel until we can repair this damage. We expect the necessary part to arrive Wednesday, and we expect to return to normal Connect 2020 service levels by Thursday.

In addition to trains sharing a single track between Westlake–Stadium due to Connect 2020 construction, trains are also sharing a single track between Mt. Baker–SODO.

Here’s what this means for you as a rider:

·         If you are boarding or exiting at Mt. Baker or Beacon Hill stations, the northbound platforms are closed until further notice.

·         You may notice your train stopping and holding near Columbia City or SODO stations, as trains in both directions alternate in the southbound Beacon Hill tunnel.

·         You may experience delays of five to 15 minutes.

Thank you for your patience during this additional disruption. We ride Link every day too, and we are just as frustrated by this thoughtless act of vandalism.  We are working to restore service as soon as safely possible.
